Health students get cholesterol screened

Health teacher Sara Haub’s Health classes partook in the annual cholesterol screening on Friday, March 1 sponsored by the Johnson County Health Department. Every year the Health students get to have their cholesterol screened and they are given a brief synopses of their results.

Sophomore Macie Rouse got her cholesterol checked in class.

“I had a 166,” Rouse said. “It is normal for people my age to have under 170.”

The screening required blood to be taken and processed by the Health Department.

“We went into [health teacher Amy] McClure’s room and they did a small finger prick on us and put the blood in a tube that went into a machine that read us our cholesterol,” Rouse said.

After they got their results back, they were told that eating better and not smoking could improve their living.

“We got our results back after the finger prick and my score was really good for my age,” Rouse said. “They told us what we could do to make us healthier.”
