Girls wrestling falls to Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission South

The girls wrestling team hosted the double dual against Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission South Thursday, Jan. 27. They lost both their match against Blue Valley and their match against Shawnee Mission South. 

Reflecting on the match, senior Shaye Neilson described her feelings about their loss and her struggle with an injury during the match.

“The match on Thursday was not my best match and I know that I should have snapped my opponent down to get my points towards the end of the match,” Neilson said. “I would say that I am proud of my performance because my knee was hurting and I powered through till the end of the match.”

Freshman Lexus Pennel shared what she learned during the match, along with her thoughts about her performance.

“I’m glad I got the opportunity to wrestle on Thursday and that I could see how girls from other teams act and the moves that they use,” Pennel said. “I am proud of my performance and the improvement from the whole team in this match.”

Neilson explained how she felt about the rest of the season.

“I am really looking forward to improving my technique and getting better. I love wrestling and all of my teammates,” Neilson said. “Coach [Michelle] McRay is a wonderful coach and I look forward to the rest of the season.”

Pennel had similar thoughts about the rest of the season

The rest of the season I want to do my best,” Pennel said. “I hope to learn a lot more so I can become a better wrestler.”
