The girls soccer team lost to Lansing 1-0 on Tuesday, April 21. The team’s record is 6-2.

“It was a tough game,” junior midfielder Emma Wetzel said. “We really wanted to win because we lost to [Lansing] last year and this was one of the key games to win the league.”

Wetzel attributed the loss to the determination of their opponent and errors made by the team.

“[Lansing] outplayed us,” Wetzel said. “We kept passing to them, making it easy for them to keep possession. Considering the rivalry we have, they played well.”

Despite the loss, sophomore midfielder Haley Freeman said the team continued to work hard, even after Lansing scored.

“I think we did a good job in the second half of communicating,” Freeman said. “After they scored, we came together and tried to achieve a goal.”

Though team members were disappointed by the defeat, Freeman said they would not let the outcome discourage them.

“I don’t think we played as well as we could have,” Freeman said. “We made a lot of mistakes, but I think if we hold our heads high, we’ll improve from that game and move forward with the rest of the season.”

The girls soccer team will play its next game Thursday, April 23 against De Soto at home.
