Girls golf celebrates successful season at banquet

With the girls golf team coming to an end the team had its team banquet on Wednesday Oct. 10 to celebrate the end of the season. Following the banquet, four girls are going to be attending state on Monday, Oct. 15 in Emporia.

“It was a fun, memorable senior season of golf,” senior Hadley Tharp said.

Because the golf team is split with De Soto High School, sophomore Holly Webb and Tharp are representing Mill Valley while Brittany Jenson and Rhiannon Caldwell are representing De Soto High School. Since De Soto is 4A and Mill Valley is 5A, the two schools are attending different state championships.

The combined team won four out of five individual tournaments. Their best outcome was the Jeff West Tournament which they received first place for with a score of 187. The team got first at every varsity tournamens except the Falcon Lakes Tournament and the Saint Thomas Aquinas Invitational.

Webb said she’ll have to calm her nerves in order to reach her state goals.

“I’m excited and a little bit nervous. We will hopefully place in the top 50 at state,” Webb said.

Webb said she will miss the seniors the most at the banquet about the seniors leaving.

“We will all be very distraught when the seniors leave,” Webb said. “We had a really great season together.”
