Girls basketball team wins 10 straight

After taking a road trip to El Dorado, Kan. For the El Dorado Tournament Championship the girls basketball team has now won 10 straight games in a row.  The team traveled the two hour distance Thursday, Jan. 26 through Saturday, Jan. 28. They won all three of their games, 77-25 against Wichita West, 51-39 against Wichita East and 60-18 against Wichita Collegiate.

Senior post Olivia Frey is proud of how her team did.

“I think our team did really well,” Frey said. “Our shooting percentage went up and we made more free throws.”

Head Coach John McFall is also pleased with how the tournament went.

“Our girls are playing pretty good right now, they guard and defend well,” McFall said. “We defended really well down in [El Dorado].”

McFall knows defense is key to winning games.

“Our defense averages well and that’s not a one time thing,” McFall said. “We are allowing our opponents 30 point a game [on average] which is fantastic.”

Frey thinks the weekend tournament was helpful for the team.

“The team had a really good time together, it was a fun weekend for us,” Frey said.

McFall thinks some of their success is coming from confidence.

“I think we are playing with a lot of confidence which is also extremely important,” McFall said.

Practicing everyday has made a huge difference according to McFall.

“Basketball is a game of habits, you don’t have time to think about what to do next,” McFall said. “Daily practices allow us to create and enforce habits.”
