Girls basketball team extends winning streak to 16-3

With their team record at 16-3, the girls basketball team is excited about post-season play. The team hosts Bishop Ward High School tonight at 6 p.m. It is also senior night for the two seniors on the team.

“I’m excited for senior night, it’s too bad there is only two of us, but it will be a fun game,” senior post Olivia Frey said.

Besides senior night, the team’s success is a reason for them to be excited.

“Our season is going so well, we’re playing as a team and finishing games the way we’d like to be,” junior guard McKenzie Koch said.

Frey is also excited about how well the team is doing.

“We’ve done really well and we’ve been consistent as a team,” Frey said.

“I think this success was definitely unexpected after starting 0-3,” Koch said. “It gives us a lot of confidence for the post season.”

Even with the success the team knows there is room for improvement.

“Rebounding is something we need to work on, our coach says game after game how we always get out rebounded,” Koch said. “It’s definitely something we can work on.”

Frey agrees rebounding is the team’s weakness right now.

“We get beat on the boards sometimes so rebounding is something we need to keep improving on,” Frey said.

Both Koch and Frey feel ready for tonight’s game against Bishop Ward High School.

“I think we’ll do fine, we just need to pressure the other team defensively,” Frey said.

Koch thinks defensive pressure is important.

“If we play like we know how and put defensive pressure on them, we’ll play pretty well,” Koch said. “Then we will come out co-champs with Bonner Springs.”
