Girls basketball team 4-3 after winning four straight games in a row

After winning the last four games, the girls basketball team is 4-3 and members are feeling good about how they’ve been playing recently. In the teams’ most recent games they won against Tonganoxie High School 45-28 on Friday, Jan. 6 and beat Bishop Ward High School 47-15 on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Senior guard Kati Strickland knows the team has been working hard for games.

“We’ve been working on our weaknesses during practices, just trying to get better,” Strickland said.

Head coach John McFall thinks the practices over break helped the team.

“There is only two or three times when we have clumps of practices together,” McFall said. “We probably practiced eight or nine times [over break] so we focused on Mill Valley and not another team we’re playing next.”

Besides the practices, McFall understands the key to the team’s success so far.

“They key has been our defense so far and their intensity,” McFall said.

Strickland hopes the team continues the wins.

“I hope we keep winning games and staying confident,” Strickland said. “We’ve been preparing well for our opponents so we know how to beat them.”

Wins aside, McFall knows there is still room for improvement.

“We’ve got to continue to improve rebounding, also we have go to get stronger with the ball, we work on it nightly,” McFall said.

The next game for the team is Friday, Jan. 13 at home against Basehor-Linwood High School.

“We have a good rivalry against Basehor,” Strickland said. “It’ll be a good test to see how [the team] is doing.”
