Cheers from students filled the gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 9 as the girls basketball team dominated the Piper Pirates, 51-28. The squad out-rebounded the Pirates, 35 to 17, and outscored them 21 to 7 in the third quarter.

The leading scorers of the game were seniors Stephanie Lichtenauer with 13 points, Tanner Tripp with 10 points and McKenzie Koch and Brooklyn Sloop with eight each.

Junior forward Carly Eaton said the team had some difficulty adjusting when Piper switched defenses.

“When they changed their defense we had some troubles, but we figured it out,” Eaton said.

The girls team recently discovered that it was ranked second in the state. Eaton said it made them feel good about their post season, but knew not to get ahead of themselves.

“[Being ranked second] makes us feel good, but the state tournament’s far away, and there’s a lot of time between then and now,” Eaton said. “To prepare for the post season, we’re just tackling it one game at a time.”
