Competing at Olathe Lanes East Jan. 21, both the boys and girls bowling teams earned strong results, with the girls taking home a first-place finish and the boys placing third against tough competition.
After a challenging start, junior Ella Diehl emphasizes how the team’s relationship pushed them towards their results.
“Today’s meet was a little bit rough at first,” Diehl said. “But everyone is so supportive of one another. Having the girls team come out at first was amazing, but because of our encouragement, I don’t expect anything less of us.”
Freshman Liam Dolan attributes tournament practice for their success, describing the team’s learned mentality.
“We’ve been building a lot of confidence at tournaments which has helped us a lot when we compete,” Dolan said. “We have a great team spirit and we know that every pin matters, which is something we’ve learned during practice.”
Additionally, reflecting on the season, Diehl describes their initial successes and how she believes it will continue.
“So far, we’ve had a really great season,” Diehl said. “We started off by breaking our school record, and getting first today is another sign of how well we’ve been doing and we hope to continue doing great throughout the rest of our meets.”
It being his first year on the team, Dolan attributes the open atmosphere as a key piece of the team’s victories.
“Our team has such a great spirit and it’s helped us so much today,” Dolan said. “This is my first year and both the girls and the guys on the team have made it feel like home. I never thought I would do bowling, but it’s been so great and everyone helps you stay focused and calm when it comes to playing on meet day.”
Diehl pointed to the team’s positive attitude as a key factor in staying focused and performing well throughout the meet.
“Everyone on the team has such a positive mindset,” Diehl said. “It helps us perform so much better when we congratulate each other and we focus on the next game rather than the past.”
After strong finishes and curating team support, both the boys and girls bowling teams hope to continue their success throughout the rest of the season.
