Freshman achieves varsity position

Freshman achieves varsity position

Freshman Devin Ristau went into the 2012 track season with the hope of running in a varsity event, but doubted she could achieve that goal.

Ristau now runs the 800-meter dash and the 4×800 meter relay for varsity.

Ristau tried not to get her hopes up when teams were being made, but her times were telling her different.

“I kept psyching myself out by telling myself a freshman can’t [be on varsity],” Ristau said. “I thought just because I was a freshman, I couldn’t be that good, even though my times were some of the best.”

The 4×800 relay team has medaled at every meet this season.

Running the second leg in the race, Ristau knows that her position on the team is one of importance.

“I have to keep the lead that the first person obtained,” Ristau said. “Then I have to make sure that the third person who runs can keep the lead.”
