Football team beats Shawnee Mission North 55-0

Friday, Oct. 23 the football team played their last regular season game of the year, defeating Shawnee Mission North and becoming the 2021 Sunflower League Champions

The football team took on Shawnee Mission North at home on Friday, Oct. 22 for their last regular season game. The team came out with a landslide win of 55-0 adding another win to make their record 7-1. After winning this game, the football team was announced the 2021 Sunflower League Champions and are now ready to advance to the postseason.

With only about three minutes Into the first quarter, Mill Valley scored the first touchdown really quick, followed by two more, followed by another additional two touchdowns in the second and third quarter. 

Friday night’s game was the annual Pink Out game. Students came decked out in pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness month and bring more energy and excitement to the stadium. 

Senior Jared Napoli was enthusiastic about the prospect of Friday’s game being the Sunflower League Championship.

“Going into the game I was super pumped to go out there and compete for a chance to win the Sunflower League as well as get the one seed for the playoff,” Napoli said.

Now that the postseason is approaching, anticipation is building amongst players and student fans who are now preparing for the season’s first playoff game. 

“For the playoffs I’m really just taking it like every other week,” Napoli said. “Just a little more intense, with more focus on preparation and the little things.”

Sophomore Madi Angell is just one of many fans in the student section that shares optimism toward the football team’s upcoming performance in postseason games.

“I think we will do really well in the postseason since we went 7-1 and we’ve had a really good offensive [team].” Angell said. “[The student section] is always so fun and loud and everyone is cheering and having a good time.”

The first playoff game will be at home on Friday, Oct. 29 against Highland Park.
