The Jaguars shutout the Bonner Springs Braves, 42-0, on Friday, Oct. 24.

The football team defeated previously undefeated Bonner Springs 42-0 on Friday, Oct. 24, qualifying the team for playoffs.

Junior wide receiver Christian Jegen started off the game with a 50-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion with 10:23 remaining in the first quarter. About four minutes later, Jegen scored again with a 41-yard touchdown.

Before the end of the first half, senior running back Isaiah Young brought the score to 35-0 with another touchdown. Junior quarterback Logan Koch rushed 91 yards to earn the team’s final touchdown with 4:14 remaining in the third quarter, making the score 42-0.

“[Beating Bonner feels] great considering we started 0-3,” senior linebacker Conner Kaifes said. “[Winning] three games in a row is a good feeling.”

Kaifes said the team is going to use the momentum of its winning streak to defeat Turner, the team’s last district game.

“[We’re] definitely going to use [the wins] to our advantage going into Turner because Turner’s 0-2 in districts, so [they’re] not looking to come out or anything hard against us,” Kaifes said.

Despite the team’s win against Bonner, senior wide receiver Michael Campbell said the team still has room for improvement.

“[We need to] get rid of the little mistakes and never take it easy, no matter what the score is,” Campbell said.

Kaifes said the team’s rivalry with Bonner made the win feel even greater.

“With all the talking going around and stuff between us, is feels good to beat them,” Kaifes said. “[My favorite part of the game was] shaking their hands and seeing the scoreboard say 42-0.”

The Jaguars will play the Turner Bears on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
