Among 27 schools, the debate team placed third at Olathe North invitational on Saturday, Oct. 26. Over 120 teams competed.

The team of seniors Jasmine Hitt and Olivia Harding won three teams and lost two.

“This weekend we did pretty good, my partner and I won some rounds and it was a 6A meet which is harder than most,” Harding said. “I think as a school we did really well.”

At times senior Riley Boyle describes debate meets as nerve racking.

“[When we got there the meet] was a little crazy it was very huge,” Boyle said. “Right away we got divided up into divisions and all the teams get pitted against each other. I was confident though you have to think logically there is no room for nerves.”

The debate team looks ahead to the rest of the season hopeful for more wins.

“Our top teams or seniors have pretty good records, we should be able to qualify for state and hopefully get more medals and trophies [through the rest of the season],” Harding said.

Also competing were:

seniors Joe Gunter and Jason Biesma (5-0)

seniors Alyssa Hobson and Daniel Ward (4-1)

seniors Meghan Fuller and Riley Boyle (2-3)
