Day 2: Bristol Seafood Grill

I decided to eat from the two-course, $15 menu at Bristol for my second restaurant of KCRW

Bristol Seafood Grill is a high-end restaurant that is famed for its fresh seafood delicacies. While there are two locations, the location in Leawood (the other near the Power & Light District) opened in 1980, serving the city with fresh seafood from their sources. In addition to seafood, Bristol also offers top-rated steaks grilled on an open wood fire.

Similar to the rest, as one of the participating restaurants in Kansas City Restaurant Week, Bristol offers a lunch and dinner menu that offers a selection of different courses that come from their original menu. The $15 lunch menu offers two courses while the $35 dinner menu offers three courses.

Course 1: Caesar Salad

First course: Caesar Salad (By Hannah Chern)

Rating: 4/5

For my first course, I chose the caesar salad. The salad is topped with grated Parmigiano Reggiano, croutons, and an asiago cheese crisp. Typically, caesar salads are on the more “boring” side of the salad spectrum, but I enjoyed this salad as it was. The grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese gave the salad a unique aged taste. Furthermore, I enjoyed breaking the asiago cheese crisp into small bits to complement each bite of my salad; I found that it was an interesting component to the dish. However, there were parts of the salad that seemed to lack flavor because it was just the lettuce. Despite this, I was still able to enjoy the salad as I ate it with the cheese crisp. Overall, while the salad didn’t amaze me, I still found myself finishing the whole plate.

Course 2: Lemon Chicken Campanelle

Rating: 3.5/5

For the main course, I chose the lemon chicken campanelle. There wasn’t a description of what it was on the menu I was

Second course: Lemon Chicken Campanelle (By Hannah Chern)

given, so I had no idea what to expect when I ordered it. When it arrived at the table, I noticed that it was a pasta-based dish that features cubed pieces of grilled lemon oregano chicken breast, roasted tomatoes, and cooked spinach all mixed with a parmesan white wine sauce. The first few bites were interesting, but as I continued the dish, I didn’t find myself loving it. The chicken, tomato, spinach, and pasta were not bad, but the sauce failed to bring all of the ingredients together, causing the dish to lack flavor. However, despite the lack of flavor in the dish, I enjoyed the diced chicken in the pasta. Chicken is usually dry and hard in pasta, but in this pasta, it had the perfect texture that made it enjoyable. Overall, even though I felt that the dish lacked flavor, I truly enjoyed the pieces of chicken in the pasta.

Overall Rating: 4/5

Bristol reduced seating capacity in order to follow safety guidelines. (By Hannah Chern)

For $15, I felt that eating lunch at Bristol was worth it. While I wasn’t fascinated by the food, it was enough to make me full. I have to give credit to Bristol’s staff for the service and safety precautions they’ve implemented in the restaurant. I didn’t have to wait long between the course, so I was in and out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Furthermore, to follow the pandemic safety guidelines, Bristol implemented changes such as reducing seating capacity and providing hand sanitizer in order to accommodate customers. Overall, my experience at Bristol was pretty good, and I applaud the staff for providing excellent service during challenging times.
