Cross country team brings home two plaques

 The cross country team woke up early on Saturday, Sept. 24 to compete in their fourth meet of the year. Taking place in Lawrence, Kan., the team ran on the rough terrain of Rim Rock Farm and ended up bringing home two plaques.

 The girls team gave their best effort in their third 4K of the year and ended up in 32nd place out of 35 teams. Senior Kati Strickland led our team with a time of 17:23 and received 89th place out of 230 runners.

The boys team had another successful week of running as varsity received third place out of 32 teams. Sophomore Landon Scott led varsity with a time of 17:08, receiving 25th place out of 225 runners and a medal. Following Scott was senior Connor Mehalovich who ran a 17:27 and ended up placing 36th.

 The JV boys team did their job as they brought home the first place plaque out of 33 teams. Leading the JV boys team was freshman Calahan Eckhardt who placed fourth with a time of 18:08. Following behind in a close pack was junior John Poorman, sophomore Jason Biesma, freshman Mitch Perkins, and sophomores Bobby Hellon and Daniel Ward, who all ran under 19 minutes.

Overall, the team brought home two plaques for the first time ever. Their next meet is on Thursday, Sept. 29 in Gardner.
