The cross country teams competed at the Sunflower League conference meet held at Rim Rock Farm Saturday, Oct. 16. The girls placed third overall and the boys placed fourth overall.

Senior Katie Schwartzkopf talks about why Rim Rock is her favorite course to run at.

“Rim Rock is pretty special to me because it is where the state meet was held during my freshman and sophomore years. It is such an exciting atmosphere and the course is beautiful in the fall,” Schwartzkopf said. “Rim Rock is the most unique course in that it has a lot of hills and it goes through many trees. I enjoy running there because I have a lot of positive memories of the course.”

Senior Nic Botkin reflects on the performance of the team.

“Team-wise, it was an improvement from our last race but we still have some things to work on. We are all amazing runners and all have the ability to have an amazing performance. Working more together as a team in these next couple of weeks will be crucial,” Botkin said. “We care so much about ourselves and what we can accomplish, so it comes down to racing with each other and for each other.”

Schwartzkopf looked back on what she did well during the race.

“I am happy with how I put myself out there in the beginning,” Schwartzkopf said. “I knew what I was capable of and I didn’t hold back at the start.”

Botkin also had similar thoughts about his race.

“One thing I did well was put myself in a good spot in the race at the beginning with people I knew would be the best competition for me,” Botkin said. “Such as [senior] Chase Scheiber, a great runner on the team who is one of those perfect people for me to run with.”
