Civil War movie does not disappoint

Trying to keep up with supplemental assignments for my AP U.S. History class proved worthy of my time. Not only did I get points back on an assignment that I misplaced, but I also got to watch a great movie.

On Monday night, I sat down to watch Glory, a 1989 film about the struggles of African-American soldiers from the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. It stars Matthew Broderick as Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Denzel Washington as Private Trip, Morgan Freeman as John Rawlins, and Cary Elwes as Cabot Forbes.

As I said before, I thought the movie was great. Being a history nerd, I was kind of excited to watch it. Though the special effects were a little bit behind considering the movie was made in the late 1980’s, I still thought it was a good visual representation of what we had learned about in class.

My only quam with this movie was the ending. I was quite disappointed, since it wasn’t exactly the happiest. I won’t give it away, but it didn’t turn out the way I had hoped or expected.

This movie is rated R for violence and strong language. The runtime of Glory is approximately 122 minutes. I highly recommend watching this movie.
