At the annual holiday choir concert, different forms of holiday-culture were portrayed on Thursday, Dec. 4. The four choirs performed songs from different countries and in different languages, creating unique difficulties.

“We’re performing a classic German song “O Tannenbaum,” [which means] O Christmas Tree. We also have a Latin piece so we’re bringing in the traditions of the holidays from all over the place,” senior Eli Stewart said. “There’s a lot of strange words and some of the pronunciations get a little tricky, but it’s just making sure you get it all right in your head.”

Junior Stephanie Schein said another difficulty of performing at choir concerts is body language.

“We have to remember not to have ‘dead face’ and look like you’re enjoying [the concert]. [Dead face] is a boring face, like your eyebrows aren’t raised, your eyes aren’t wide and you just look like you’re not having fun,” Schein said.

Despite the difficulties of performing the choirs are improving, according to Stewart.

“These choirs are growing every year and we hope to make these groups bigger and bigger, and better and better, in every way we can,” Stewart said. “All of our pieces sound really nice and we listen really well to our conductor. As a whole I think that everyone is a talented musician in our program.”
