Boys wrestling places second in the 6A state tournament

The team traveled to Wichita to compete Thursday, Feb. 22 to Saturday, Feb. 24 and were led by four individual state champions

The boys wrestling team placed second at the 6A state tournament at the Hartman Arena in Wichita, ending with 175 points, 10 points short of Manhattan. While finishing second, the team still had four individual state champions and four wrestlers who placed.

Seniors Maddox Casella, Dillon Cooper and Colin McAlister placed first in the 126 lb, 138 lb and 165 lb weight classes, respectively. Sophomore Christopher Wash also placed first in the 215 lb weight class.

In addition, sophomore Jeredy Nilges placed 5th in the 106 lb weight class, senior Robert Hickman placed 3rd in the 120 lb weight class, senior Brady Mason placed 2nd in the 150 lb weight class and sophomore Lamarcus Barber placed 6th in the 285 lb weight class.

Head coach Joey Lazor was also named Kansas Wrestling Officials Association 6A coach of the year and 6A Sportsmanship award coach of the year, in addition to winning 6A East regional coach of the year.

Outside of school she enjoys going rock climbing, playing softball with her friends, listening to music, and reading in her room til 4am.
