The boys swim team competed at the Olathe North Triangular meet Wednesday, Jan. 11. The team placed first overall and competed against Olathe North and Shawnee Mission Northwest.

The team had first place finishes in two of the three relay swims and five of the nine individual swims. Senior Anthony Molinaro placed first in the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free. Senior Adam Budimlija placed first in the 100-yard breast and 200-yard IM. Sophomore Alex Martin placed first in the 500-yard free.

Sophomore Anderson Doyle believes the triangular meet was a benefit for the team.

“It was a pretty small meet so we got done quick,” Doyle said. “[There were] only three teams at the meet but, as a team, we did really well and everyone took some time off of their strokes.”

Paraprofessional and coach Sarah Evans is proud of the performance that the team displayed.

“The boys had a great meet,” Evans said. “We had 10 individual best times with significant time drops.”

In addition to the team’s success at the meet, Budimlija’s performance allowed him to qualify for state.

“I dropped 10 seconds in the 200-yard IM and qualified for state in the 100-yard breast and got first in all my events,” Budimlija said.

Although Molinaro is happy with where he placed, he believes there is room for improvement.

“I felt good in the water and had a good mindset,” Molinaro said. “I didn’t get the times I wanted but I will take what I can get. I could improve on my reaction time and my breakouts.”
