The boys basketball team defeated Bonner Springs 67-58 on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at home.

The Jaguars led the Braves through the entirety of the game, a feat senior Jacob Klenda said was primarily due to the competitive relationship between the two teams.

“They beat us at their place, so it was good to get them back,” Klenda said. “It was a really exciting win because they’re basically our rivals.”

After losing to Bonner Springs 67-65 earlier in the season, team members came out strong to compensate for the loss. Senior Kasey Conklin said the team’s effort and motivation to beat the Braves led to the victory.

“I felt like we had a lot more energy and we played overall a lot better [in this game],” Conklin said. “We didn’t mess around.”

Klenda said players on the team improved their defensive techniques and played as a united front.

“We played really well team defense and we were able to rebound the ball,” Klenda said. “We really worked well together.”

According to Conklin, the Jaguars played stronger in every aspect of the game, resulting in a win for the team.

“Honestly, I think we did everything well,” Conklin said. “We did everything that we wanted, offensively and defensively.”

To Klenda, the win represents the progress the team has made throughout this season and will continue making in future games.

“I was excited because I knew it was another step in our season, and I was ready to keep moving forward,” Klenda said.

The team will play its next game on Friday, Feb.19, against Piper at Piper High School.
