The boys and girls track and field teams both began the season with a first place win at Mill Valley on Tuesday, March 31.

Beginning the season with a success, senior Colton Bray, who tied the pole vault record of 15 feet, said the competitors were equally skilled which made concentrating a challenge.

“I was well matched with the competition,” Bray said. “There will always be nerves when jumping, but I stay focused by just letting my body do what I’ve trained it to do.”

Even with a difficulty of concentration, junior Sally Carey believed the track and field team started the season with a rewarding first meet.

“Our team did really well,” Carey said. “I did alright considering it was our first meet, but I have a lot of room for improvement.”

With space for growth, Carey described the team’s training to prepare for this meet.

“[We complete] lots of sprints and leg workouts,” Carey said.

With aggressive competition ahead, Bray produced a plan for improvement throughout the season.

“[I will] do more technical drills during practice to improve my run and swing,” Bray said.

The teams’ next meet will be held at Ottawa High School on Friday, April 3.
