Blog: The Fray don’t die
Let’s face it. The Fray’s last album, Scars and Stories, wasn’t really anything to talk about. So when I heard that they were coming out with a new single, I wasn’t too excited. When I first heard it, everything changed. The Fray is back, and better than ever.
In the song, called “Love Don’t Die,” The Fray abandon the piano rock they were known for on previous albums for a more alternative sound. However, this change is not something to complain about. The new song shows parts of The Fray that haven’t been seen (or I guess heard) before, such as Dave Welsh and Joe King’s amazing guitar skills. The new song also accents Isaac Slade’s voice, something I definitely cannot get enough of.
Although I do love this song, I also miss the piano rock The Fray was known for. “How to Save a Life” was the song that originally got me hooked on The Fray, and I still want to hear more songs that sound like that. I do respect The Fray for experimenting with their music, but I don’t think they should abandon their How to Save a Life and The Fray era sound. After all, it did give them widespread success in the music world.
Despite this, the song is still amazing. I can’t wait to hear more of this new side of The Fray, but I also can’t wait to hear more of what they’re known for – awesome, piano driven rock songs. You can definitely expect to hear this song sometime soon, along with more tracks off their newest album, Helios, set to be released on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014. And trust me, I will be racing to iTunes to buy it.
