Marvel announced so many new movies today that my heard hurts, but in a good way.

The film line-up, along with release dates, was presented this afternoon at the Marvel Event. These events are similar to the Apple events, both in the way that the company uses it as a way to get across important release information, and that they inspire many geeks like myself to start shedding tears and throwing money in the direction of the speaker. With Apple events it is shiny new tech, and with Marvel it is some of the best superhero movies ever.

In order of release date, my thoughts on upcoming Marvel movies:

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” (May 1, 2015)

The first Avengers movie went down in superhero and summer movie hit history, and was also one of the highlights of my freshman year. Now that I am a senior, it almost feels nostalgic to return to the beloved squad of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye (plus, it looks like some others are accompanying the gang). The trailer was recently released, and I have two words: holy tortellini. My crew is there, the villain Ultron looks terrifying and this trailer music is giving me chills. Time to put this on repeat. Who wants to go with me to the midnight premiere?

“Ant-Man” (July 17, 2015)

The premise of Ant-Man, a newbie to the Marvel cinematic universe, is that he can shrink in size but increase in strength. Whether or not his powers are interesting enough to redeem him from his horrible alter ego name is up to you to decide. Personally, I am waiting for a trailer to pass judgement on this one. Considering it’s Marvel, I’m sure it’ll be good, but I’m not sure how good.

“Captain America: Civil War” (May 6, 2016)

Out of the individual superheroes’ movies (a.k.a. series that aren’t “The Avengers”), I’ve always thought that Captain America had the best. While Thor and Iron Man’s series started to get a little old, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” was even better than the original, in my opinion. Now, with “Civil War,” it’s only going to get better. The Civil War arc in the comics was all about Captain America and Iron Man becoming bitter, intense rivals over a superhero-related government policy. Cap and Tony Stark fiercely fighting with each other sounds awesome. I wish movies didn’t take so long to make.

“Doctor Strange” (November 4, 2016)

Neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme? Sign me up! It’s about time Doctor Strange got his own film, and if it’s pulled off correctly, it will be really entertaining to watch. Marvel announced that Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his roles in BBC’s “Sherlock,” “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug” and “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” will play the titular character. This is either a very good move or a very bad move, considering the general opinion of Cumberbatch is that you either love him or you hate him.

“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” (May 5, 2017)

While there is next to nothing known about what this movie will entail, it is the one on this list that I am most excited for. The original “Guardians” might have surpassed “The Avengers” as my favorite Marvel movie of all time. It was hilarious, starred the comical and aesthetically pleasing Chris Pratt, had a kickin’ soundtrack and took place in space. And let’s not forget that Groot is the most lovable nonhuman sidekick ever. It was also a huge box office hit. (No, I couldn’t find an adult Star-Lord Halloween costume. Yes, I checked.) I can’t wait for a trailer, or even a synopsis.

“Thor: Ragnarock” (July 28, 2017)

In Norse mythology, Ragnarock is the final battle between the gods and the forces of evil, essentially the end of times. Sounds like Thor’s in for some serious conflict. If this means the end of Asgard in the Marvel cinematic universe, I will cry real tears, because Asgard is beautiful and one of the best part of Thor movies. However, seeing Thor thrust into a apocalyptic scenario is definitely something I am interested in.

“Black Panther” (November 3, 2017)

Black Panther was the first black superhero in comics, and he is now the first black superhero to star in his own Marvel film (I was still hoping for a Falcon movie, though). He will be played by Chadwick Boseman, and his powers include Olympic-level strength, speed, etc., as well as genuis-level intellect. This movie announcement was great to see, as diversity is super important, especially in an industry as wide as the superhero industry. All kinds of people should be able to see a role model for themselves that looks like them in these movies. Which leads me to the next film…

“Captain Marvel” (July 6, 2018)

Captain Marvel will be the first female Marvel superhero to star in her own movie! I’m surprised that Black Widow didn’t beat her to the punch (literally and figuratively). Captain Marvel has had a variety of identities and powers throughout the comics, and is not yet apparent which iteration of her we will see in this movie. No matter which version is chosen, this movie is going to be amazing, and more diversity in Marvel characters is great.

“Inhumans” (November 2, 2018)

Marvel may not own the rights to the X-Men movies, but they are introducing a new band of mutants: the Inhumans were humans, experimented on by aliens, and given super powers. I don’t know a ton about these characters, or what their movie will be about, but Marvel has nailed group movies in the past. It’s definitely one to keep on the radar.

“Avengers: Infinity War,” Part 1 (May 4, 2018) and Part 2 (May 3, 2019)

The Avengers movies are following a trend in other popular movie series: splitting into separate films in order to get the most money from fans. I’m not going to complain because to me, the more, the merrier. “Infinity War” focuses on the powerful items the infinity stones, which will no doubt be used by the villain Thanos to wreak havoc. This is supported by the trailer shown at the event (Why does this have a trailer and not “Guardians” 2? I demand answers, Marvel). If you saw “Guardians of the Galaxy,” (and if you haven’t, please do), you already have an idea of what infinity stones are capable of. Could these movies be the end of the Marvel cinematic universe as we know it? While Marvel certainly won’t be stopping their movies anytime soon, this could cause a serious shift in the ‘verse.

So there you have it, all the Marvel movies to be released from now until 2020. Which one are you most excited for?
