Blog: Jack White’s next amazing feat

Last Saturday was Record Store Day. While I didn’t personally celebrate, many musicians and record stores across the globe did. No artist celebrated as much as Jack White, though. White, in collaboration with the record label he owns, Third Man Records, recorded the fastest studio-to-store single ever. Needless to say, it was amazing.

White began the process around 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. He played a short live show for a small group of fans, and during his performance of “Lazaretto,” the A-side (single) for the record was cut. The master copy was then transported by two official record guards to be copied and packaged. White then personally took the first copies of the record to a self-made storefront to be sold to fans. Copies continued to be made and sold until there were no more fans willing to buy the record. The whole process took 3 hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds exactly, and the highlights were documented in a video that White later posted to Third Man’s YouTube channel.

As a live record, the performance is stellar. White uses his skills live to create a version that is very similar to the studio version, but still different enough to be interesting. While the quality is not anything to praise, this should be expected, as it is a live version and was rushed through the recording process.

This accomplishment is yet another testament to White’s awesomeness. After already being involved in three successful bands and beginning a great solo career, this only increased his stardom in the world of alternative music. Hopefully White will continue to impress, not only through his music (including his new album, “Lazaretto,” out Tuesday, June 10), but also through actions like this.
