Ladies and gentlemen, exactly a week ago from today was the arrival of fall. I always tend to have mixed emotions when it comes to the start of fall but don’t get me wrong, I love the season. The leaves are changing, there’s beautiful weather and even the smell in the air is captivating. Just in general, the atmosphere is breathtaking, and can we please take a moment to appreciate Halloween? But with all these exciting new changes, the warm weather and the sense of freedom that belongs to summer vanishes. Wild fun nights are replaced with comfy chill evenings and ice cream is replaced with Pumpkin Spice Lattes. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, really. So if you’re not digging the fall changes and you’re craving the sweet summer days, here are a few tips on how to keep that summer vibe going.

1. Watch your favorite movie that reminds you of summer. The movie could take place in the summer, inspire the feelings of summer or maybe you just watched it a lot during the summer. Whatever the case, it’ll distract you from the cold weather that’s looming above our heads.

2. Go have fun in the sun. This seems a little obvious but the Vitamin D you get from the sun is actually scientifically proven to be super beneficial for your physical and mental health.

3. Eat summer foods. Have a cookout, eat some good fruits, have a popsicle or two or maybe something you just ate a lot of this past season. You will associate all these with summer which will bring back those good feelings.

4. Make time for something you only could do in the summer. For me, I started doing yoga this summer and it’s been tough finding time to do it on weekdays. Since yoga is relaxing and it reminds me of summer, I’ve been trying to fit it in with my schedule and I’d say it’s definitely worth it.

5. Pull an all-nighter. Now I’d highly recommend this on a night when you don’t have school the next day, so try it on a Friday or Saturday. All nighters are the key to a good summer, especially if you’re having fun with your friends.

6. Go to a concert or amusement park. Maybe it’s just me but when I think of roller coasters or concerts, I automatically think of summer. Since these activities can be a bit on the pricier side, try to find a cheap place to go or look for some good deals.

7. Pull out a few of your own pictures that spark a few summer memories or look up some summery pictures on the internet. Be careful with this one though because some of these pictures can make you glum and miss summer more than make you feel like you’re reliving it.

8. Smell something tropical. I especially love to smell coconut scented sunscreen because, for me at least, that’s basically summer in a small plastic bottle. Your sense of smell is a great way to bring back memories.

9. Do something you haven’t done since you were a kid. For example, things like playing hopscotch, riding a bike, blowing bubbles, decking out your driveway with chalk or getting a bunch of friends together to play basketball or football. When you were a kid, things were a lot simpler. Well same with summer. During these times the sky’s the limit and you have all the time in the world. Doing an activity you used to love doing as a child will bring back that wonderful sense of freedom that you often feel during the summer.

10. Wash a car. It can be your own or even a parent’s or sibling’s. If you wash someone else’s they’ll be grateful and if you wash your own, you’ll have a clean car all the while making you feel all summery. Double bonus.

11. Listen to music from the summer. Music is an awesome way to bring back memories, so blast some music, kick back and have fun.

Hopefully with these tips you’ll be able to beat the autumn blues and keep the summer sensation going. Just remember when it seems as if all the fun is gone, keep calm and summer on!
