The baseball team took on Olathe South at home on Tuesday May 6 for senior night. The team walked away with a huge win and a great performance from Beau Peterson, Issac Lightcap and Connor Bohon.
For senior night there is a very special tradition of having senior players’ parents throw out a ceremonial first pitch. For senior Isaac Lightcap the traditions such as this one make senior year special.
“We have a couple good traditions for senior players. One being every year before we go out of town Coach Finan gets us a special ‘Valley Boys’ shirt which has a deeper meaning of respect, character and sacrifice, something our program tries to live by,” Lightcap said.
This senior group also has an amazing bond. Senior Connor Bohon reflects on the relationship between all the senior players.
“Although we are not always together and did not all grow up together, we care for each other like brothers and would do anything to pick each other up,” Bohon said.
This senior season isn’t just special for the players it was also special for the coaches as well coach Jeff Strickland looks back on a special moment for one of his players.
“One of the most amongst many memorable moments was Isaac Lightcap getting his first varsity start on the mound. Went out to St. Thomas Aquinas, which was a fantastic team, and pitched one of the best games of the year,” Strickland said.
