All bands and choirs score ones at state

The music department made history when all three choirs and both bands earned one ratings, the highest, in the KSHSAA State Large Group Contest at Eudora High School on Wednesday, April 17. Both blue and silver band, as well as Jag Chorale, Jag Chorale women and Jag Chorale men earned the top ratings.

Junior Jacqueline Nelson, a member of the blue band, was very pleased with the rating the bands received.

“Each band worked really hard for this,” Nelson said. “We are all happy and proud of our scores.”

The choir also had students competing in the KSHSAA Solo and Ensemble Regionals in Baldwin on Saturday, April 13. Eleven choir students who performed solos received a one rating, as did the Jaguar Singers and Treble Ladies.

Choral music director Sheree Stoppel was thrilled with how well her students did in all aspects.

“[The choirs] worked very hard on the details of their performance,” Stoppel said. “I’m proud of how they’ve come together this year.”

Solos and small ensembles will be competing in state on Saturday, April 27.
