A Creative Kind of Corner: “Eye” see you

This week, Avery decided to do a body study with a focus on eyes

A Creative Kind of Corner: Eye see you

I decided to change up what I drew today, and instead of drawing a full body or an animal, or just a complete piece of something, I drew eyes. Human eyes only though, because I mainly wanted to focus on how they express emotion. While lots of animals express emotions through their eyes, human eyes are, in my opinion, the most beautiful, because they show everything. I have always found the expression “eyes are the gateways to the soul” to be true, simply because I have spent so much time observing people’s emotions, and it is easiest to do by watching the eyes. A person can have the most guarded expression on their face, and their eyes can show every emotion they’re currently feeling. It’s inevitable.

I went through and observed the eyes of some celebrities, and some friends of mine, comparing how they looked and what their personalities generally consisted of, and found that even in photos, their eyes represented their person. Some are more stoic and introverted than others, and this shows in their eyes, the lack of creases and relaxed brows painting an image of a very laid back person, even if you cannot see the rest of the face. Another set is smiling very brightly, having just gone through an exciting experience, their crows feet and tucked eyebrows representing the cheer they’re feeling in the photo. Multiple pairs are depicted with raised eyebrows and wide eyes, showing surprise and interest in whatever they’re looking at. Emotions are so much fun to study and draw, and eyes are the best way to portrait them.
