Blog: Starting off the year with a little StuCo

After four years on StuCo, I am now the student body president. Over the course of these four years I have learned the amount of work that goes into planning events and being a leader. I’m writing this blog so I can keep my fellow classmates up-to-date with what StuCo is planning and how I think certain events played out.

First off, we had a very limited amount of time to plan both Homecoming and Freshman Orientation. We held several meetings before school began and focused on both of these major events. This was a stressful time for all StuCo members because we had to plan two things at once. Luckily, we were able to get everything done on time and believed both Homecoming and Freshmen Orientation had good results.

Homecoming was a definite success. I felt like we had more student participation this year than we have had in the past. I think this can be partially attributed to the new class competitions. Although students shouldn’t need an incentive to participate in a school activity, I think it brought grades together.

It’s always rewarding whenever a teacher or administrator gives me a compliment over a StuCo event that went well. It’s nice to hear that people have recognized how much work we put into planning something.

Stay tuned for more updates on StuCo.
