Over Homecoming weekend, many students chose to skip the dance in order to attend the Chappell Roan concert on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Sophomore Riley Baggett was originally planning on attending the Homecoming dance, but changed her plans after hearing about the concert.
“I skipped homecoming for this concert. When I saw an Instagram post that she was going to be in Kansas City, I was starting to plan out Homecoming, but as soon as I saw that, I just knew I had to see her,” Baggett said.
For senior Josey Crossley, her experience at the concert was worth missing out on the dance.
“I feel like the crowd was really interactive with all the music,” Crossley said. “It’s one of the few concerts I’ve been to where everyone around me knew every word, so that was nice.”
The concert was one of three locations on Roan’s Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things tour; the other two tour stops are New York City and Los Angeles. Junior Allie Novay found this very exciting, especially since Roan is from the Midwest.
“It definitely felt really cool because it was only L.A., New York and Kansas City,” Novay said. “Those are like the two biggest cities and Kansas City so it’s pretty cool that Kansas was also [a stop].”
Crossley echoed Novay’s statement about the uniqueness of Kansas City being a stop on the tour.
“I think it was cool that Kansas City was a stop, because she’s from a smaller town in Missouri, so that’s why she stopped in Kansas City, which was really nice and she mentioned that in the concert,” Crossley said.
