Seven questions with freshman fencer Rohit Biswas

Seven questions with freshman fencer Rohit Biswas

Can you tell me about your fencing career?

I started about three years ago. I fence in V-14, Division three, and cadet. I fence at FACKC, or Fencing Athletic Club of Kansas City.

What made you decide to start?

Basically, I saw it on the Olympics, thought it was cool, went, and found out I was good at it. I’ve been doing it ever since.

What was the hardest thing about learning to fence?

Moving fast without crossing your feet. Because you’re supposed to be quick but you can’t cross your feet, so it’s really hard when you’re moving up and down the strip.

What sorts of things do you do to practice?

Advanced lunges and 10-55s. A 55 is 10 pushups, suicide run across, then 10 sit-ups, and suicide run back. Then nine, eight, seven, and it keeps decreasing. That’s pretty much it.

What tournaments or competitions have you competed in?

Local ones. I’ve been to SYCs. I don’t know what that stands for, though. There are Division three tournaments as well.

What is your least favorite thing about fencing?

55’s. You die at the end of the 10th one. I think everyone in my class starts doing easy pushups (on your knees) by then.

What is your favorite thing about fencing?

Stabbing people! Also, making people mad when you beat them with easy touches.
