“The Fate of Ophelia” is based on Shakespeare's “Hamlet”, and the character Ophelia, who dies during the play. Swift takes Ophelia's story and puts it in her perspective by re writing her ending. In Swift’s ending Ophelia is saved from her fate. My original opinion of this song was that it's really not her best work. However, after a few listens, it truly began to grow on me. Overall, the re-write of her ending is a genius moment from Swift; the lyrics are good, however, not nearly as deep as songs on her previous albums like “The Tortured Poets Department.”The beat is extremely catchy, but in my opinion, it just didn't capture the jazzy showgirl vibe of the album.
