Dressed up in a suit of glitter, freshman Leif Campbell focuses as he prepares for the next act of “High School Musical” at his community theatre, the Culture House, in the summer of 2017.  The scene changes as characters get into position and the music began, starting the next act.

Taking after his mother Siri Campbell, Leif started theatre in the third grade after her recommendation.

“She was in theatre in grade school and influenced me to try it,” Leif said. “I liked it and had a great time so I just kept with it.”

As he continued with his love of theatre, he found one of his favorite roles was Ryan Evans in High School Musical.

“I got to have fun with it and really get into the role,” Leif said. “Playing Ryan was a lot of fun which is why it’s one of my favorites.”

Fellow castmate sophomore Camyn Vitt enjoys working with Leif during performances.

“[Leif] is incredible,” Vitt said. “From what I’ve seen, he’s kind and humble but also very talented.”

Leif prepares to take on a new role by putting confidence into his character.

“I really try to focus on my confidence in myself to play the character and get through my lines,” Leif said.

Leif and his mother saw the broadway show “Dear Evan Hansen” and met the writer, Steven Levenson, who encouraged him to continue his love of theatre.

“We talked to [Levenson] and he said, ‘This could be you someday’ to Leif,” Siri said. “I’d love to see him get that far, but even if he decides to do it just for fun, I’d still support him.”

With about 10 years of experience, Leif has been in over 20 shows.

“Ever since Leif joined, he did about 2 or 3 shows each year, which really adds up,” Siri said.

Leif’s love for theatre influences him to encourage others to join.

“If you’re interested, try it,” Leif  said. “It’s a very welcoming community with amazing experiences and the cast is basically a family.”
