Friday, Sept. 19, Mill Valley’s football team faced off against Shawnee Mission East at the swamp, winning with a score of 56-21, bringing their record to two and one to start the season. Because of the high offensive score, the energy of the game was extremely elevated. Junior Ryder Farley shares how the high score impacted the team.
“When our offense is putting up points like that, the energy is huge,” Farley said. “It makes it easy for the defense to feed off it and carry that momentum into the game. And it’s exciting to see my teammates get in the end zone so much.”
According to junior Josh Garcia, the team focused on playing their best and made sure to prepare extensively for the matchup.
“The team prepared very well this week for the game,” Garcia said. “We made sure to show up every morning, coming with a get better mindset to film, and practicing at a championship level the whole week.”
Farley shares his thoughts on how he believes this win will positively impact the team.
“This win really boosts our confidence,” Farley said. “It shows that the work we’ve been putting in during practice is paying off, and it brings us closer together as a team, knowing that we do it all together.”
Since the game was such a big win, Garcia shares what he hopes to take away from the victory.
“I want to carry the energy of the game into the future, especially our brotherhood,” Garcia said. “Having energy every game, every second, and every play is key to success. The whole team loves each other and wants to be around each other, and that’s going to be so impactful throughout the season.”
Additionally, the team has maintained a winning mindset in their games and plans to carry that into the rest of the season.
“The mindset going into games is ‘expect to win,’ meaning, we are prepared for any challenge,” Farley said. “All of the hard work that we put in, whether it’s winter workouts or hours of watching film, the end goal is to play confidently and win.”
