jagPRIDE sponsors door decorating contest

To recognize Red Ribbon Week, jagPRIDE is holding its annual door decorating contest. The purpose of the contest is to spread positive messages about healthy living during Red Ribbon Week, a campaign observed every year during the last full week of October to raise awareness about alcohol, tobacco, drug and violence prevention.

Students can decorate the door of their seminar class during seminar after getting their design approved by their teacher. Teachers are not responsible for creating the design or providing all materials. Students may bring items from home or shop for materials outside of school. In order to be considered for judging, seminar teachers should let jagPRIDE sponsor Debbie Gudenkauf know immediately whether or not their classes plan to participate.

The rules of the contest are as follows:

  1. The theme of the contest this year is “Choices,” and should reflect healthy life choices. This may include: choosing to be drug/alcohol free, healthy relationships, ending bullying, healthy eating or positive self image.  Messages and graphics must be positive and appropriate.
  2. The door must be completed by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29. Judging will take place on Friday.
  3. Decorations must stay within the parameters of the outside of the door. Door handles must remain visible and operational. Door decorations may not impede the usage of the door or pose a safety hazard.
  4. All decorations must be removable. They cannot damage or permanently mark the door. No nails, tacks or staples may be put into the door. All adhesives must be fully removable. Please test your adhesive before using it.

The doors will be judged using a rubric and based upon the following criteria: visual impact, craftsmanship/neatness and creativity. The top two seminars with the most points awarded on the rubric will be rewarded with a cookie cake provided by jagPRIDE on a date to be determined between the winning seminar teacher and jagPRIDE.
