It’s awfully Blue in the world of pop culture

Its awfully Blue in the world of pop culture

When it comes to those celebrities whose lives you just love to eat up, a lot has happened within recent weeks that’s considerably notable. If you spent your winter break lollygagging around Shawnee, chances are you’re out of the loop.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand divorce

On Dec. 30, pop singer Katy Perry and actor Russell Brand ended their marriage. Citing “irreconcilable differences,” Brand took to the courts to file the divorce. Since then, a statement released by Brand has confirmed the divorce. However, Perry’s lips have remained sealed besides a couple of vague tweets thanking her fans, confronting tabloid lies and one in which she confirms her rumored cancelled People’s Choice Awards appearance. I definitely thought these two’s eccentric personalities went well together, but I guess even celebrities have imperfect marriages. And while Brand may not be Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” he has to remember that she once stated, “I Kissed a Girl.” That has to mean something.

Casey Anthony breaks silence (well, someone else does it for her at least)

I know the Casey Anthony murder trial took place over half a year ago, but c’mon, I can’t be the only one intrigued by the infamous mom’s whereabouts. Last week, two personal videos of Anthony were leaked for online viewing. In the first video, she sports a blond bob with thick-rimmed, black glasses. She discusses everyday topics such as the feeling that her life is “surreal” and that she just recently adopted a dog. In a second leaked video diary, Anthony shows off red hair with a brand new nose piercing. Despite the letdown of receiving no answers to my lingering questions regarding the case, being allowed a glimpse of her new disguises were enough to amuse me. Earlier this week, it was made known that Anthony reported to her probation officer that her personal computer had been hacked and today’s headlines are saying that Anthony plans to let go of her famous defense attorney Jose Baez. So much for being in hiding.

Beyonce and Jay-Z welcome first baby Blue Ivy Carter

Last Saturday, Jan. 7, pop singer Beyonce Knowles and her rapper hubby Jay-Z Carter welcomed their first child into the world. Following her birth, Blue Ivy Carter instantly became one of the world’s most famous babies. Her name comes from a mixture of her dad’s Blueprint albums and IV, the roman numeral for her mom’s favorite number. After facing many suspicions that Beyonce was having her baby carried by a surrogate mother, Jay-Z and Beyonce took to Beyonce’s website days after for the first official announcement of their daughter. In it, they state that Blue was born naturally and is healthy. With this message they also shared “Glory,” Jay-Z’s first song since Blue’s birth in which she makes her singing (crying?) debut. It gets pretty deep; if you’d like to listen to it click here.
