Graduation ceremony moves outdoors

Graduation is set to change to a new schedule and system this year. It will occur on Saturday, May 19, and is planned to occur outdoors.

According to the released graduation statement from principal Tobie Waldeck, graduation is planned to take place at the Jaguar football stadium, instead of in the gym where it has been done in the past. This is in response to a survey taken by the current senior class at the end of the last academic year. Waldeck said within the statement that he is dedicated to make this day unique and different for the class of 2012.

“I want to assure you I am committed to having a successful and memorable graduation for the MVHS Class of 2012,” Waldeck said within the statement. “Our students have worked hard and deserve this opportunity to celebrate their special day outdoors.”

The schedule is tentative in the event of inclement weather occurs. If such an occasion arises, the ceremony will be moved into the gym and a ticket system will be put in place.

The graduation ceremony will also take place at 10 a.m. instead of the usual afternoon scheduled time of 3 p.m. Senior Hannah Brinker said she is excited about the changes.

“I think [the changes] are a good idea,” Brinker said. “Now you can spend more time with your family and friends afterwards.”

The following is the new updated schedule for graduation:
