Girls tennis team plays in dual against Shawnee Mission Northwest

Recently the girls team faced Shawnee Mission Northwest in a tennis dual on Friday, Sept. 30. The team played both varsity and junior varsity teams. The varsity went 3-9 (2-6 in singles, 1-3 in doubles) and the JV team went 4-2 overall (3-1 in singles, 1-1 in doubles.)

For the varsity team seniors Kelli Rutherford and Lauren Shurley lost their match 8-1. Juniors Taylor Brunson and Joylyn Kennedy were joined up and they won their match 8-2. Junior Sarah Wetzel and freshman Mikaela McCabe lost their match 8-4. Senior Hillary Rupp and junior Rachael Blair also lost their match 8-2.

Next, the doubles turned to singles and the results are those that follow:

Wetzel vs. Carley Olson W 8-2

Rutherford vs. Lauren Benjamin L 8-0

Brunson vs. Amanda Rebori W 8-3

Kennedy vs. Gabby Whitmore L 8-3

Shurley vs. Zoe Ziegehorn L 8-4

McCabe vs. Abby Zimmerman L 8-4

Rupp vs. Brook Evans L 8-5

Blair vs. Brooke Bennett L 8-3

The team played again on Monday in the MVHS Tri and will play again on Saturday, Sept. 8 in the varsity regional.
