For years, I have followed numerous dog accounts on Instagram, which all cover their bases on dramatic photos, silly photos and of course, cute ones. Dog accounts break up the political posts, the arguing and everything else moms on Facebook complain about. If you’re looking to get out of it, here is a definitive list of the best dog accounts to get you started on a great dog-filled feed:

Maurice, @Mauricemountaindog on Instagram

As you can probably tell by the handle, Maurice a big old mountain dog who LOVES to play with toys. Maurice’s owner is former Mill Valley student Kaia Minter, who currently lives in Lawrence, but travels to see Maurice when possible. Maurice’s photos always show him as a happy, playful guy who’s just a bit too big sometimes. That’s OK, Maurice. I still love you.

The Dogist, @Thedogist on Instagram

Similar to the famous “Humans of New York,” The Dogist features new dogs every day, often including quotes from their owners about the dogs’ habits and interesting facts. The account has over 2.4 million followers, and it’s evident as to why. The photos are professional, the quotes are informative and it is interesting to see the different breeds and smiles. If you want to see more, there is even a published book which includes hundreds of dogs, all cute and all loving.

Dog Rates, @We_Rate_Dogs on Twitter

This famous account features dogs of all different background and is actually run on submissions. Dog owners will submit a photo of their dog, and the picture will recieve a rating, although most of them are 12/10. In the spring, there is a “March Madness” style tournament where followers vote on the cutest dogs. Last year, Pipsy was a crowd favorite, as she was a tiny cocker spaniel in a little bucket on a pier. That’s the kind of wholesome content we all need to be celebrating more often.

Kevin, @Kevinbarky on Instagram

Kevin Barky Arpin is the one and only dog of band director Elliot Arpin, who started the account in 2015. Kevin is a tri-color corgi often seen toting Sporting KC gear. He loves to run around despite his tiny legs, and is quite the

Instead of reading fake news or arguing on Facebook, check out these dog social media accounts for a real treat. Happy barking!
