Boys basketball team loses season opener 68-34

Boys basketball team loses season opener 68-34

The boys basketball team opened up its season with a 68-34 loss to the Raiders of Shawnee Mission South High School on Friday, Dec. 2.

“It was a disappointing loss, but I thought overall the team got better,” junior guard Staton Rebeck said.

The team shot 28 percent from the field and 17 percent from three-point range. Junior Nathan Stacy led the team with 12 points with six made free throws. The team did have some negatives but one of the main positives was free throw shooting, we went 13-18 from the line which comes out to be 72 percent.

One of the problems for the Jaguars was the defense, as they allowed 68 points with only had one blocked shot the whole entire game from junior guard Kyle Kain, and a total of four steals. Another problem of the game was the foul trouble. Junior guard Jake Theis and junior forward Brett Hamilton had to play somewhat conservative knowing they had four fouls. Stacy and sophomore Nick Friesner had three fouls.

One more problem was the turnovers. Our team had a large number of 15 turnovers.

The team’s next game is at Mill Valley High School against the Gardner-Edgerton High School Trailblazers on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
