Blog: Working out the mid-issue madness

Blog: Working out the mid-issue madness

Austin speaking:

First off, I’d like to say how happy I am with how the paper and our staff is progressing. The newbies are finally getting the hang of things and we are working out all of the kinks that came with our first issue. The first issue was definitely a learning issue; having that experience has helped tremendously in the organization of issue two. We’ve been able to learn what works and what doesn’t, what our new staff member’s strengths are and what type of system we should use to organize (hooray for checklists). Because of these things, I am sure of the fact that issue two will rock and will be a huge improvement from issue one; it’s already coming along quite nicely. Get excited, folks, because I know I sure am.

Kristina speaking:

Two months into the school year and we’re almost finished with our second issue. This year is going by so quickly. Much to the staff’s appreciation, I think we have finallly found our rhythm. Our organization is continually improving, procrastination is decreasing and everyone on staff is understanding the importance of completing assignments on time. I’ve also noticed that the staff is becoming more comfortable and forming friendships with each other. This helps a lot when it comes to communication in class. However I think we need to begin doing more staff bonding with each other, especially after the issues have been completed. I’m super excited with the progress and devotion that the staff is showing.

Hanna speaking:

In the midst of the second issue, things are going much more smoothly than they were the first time around. Writers have learned how to interview, photographers know what they’re doing and editors are adjusting to their new roles. Hopefully this next issue will reflect the experience of the staff and show improvement from the first. I also hope that the second issue of JagWire brings with it more staff bonding. With so many new members of the staff, I hope we really have time to get to know each other. And you know, we might just have to initiate a few more raves to get the job done.
