After four years of playing tennis for the school, senior Sarah Wetzel finally achieved her goal of qualifying for state.

The level of competition was extremely high, with every player in the region, including Wetzel, was knocked out in the first round. The tournament lasted from Saturday Oct. 13 to Sunday Oct. 14 and was held in Topeka.

Regardless of the results, Wetzel was happy to be there.

“I’m super glad I got to go,” Wetzel said. “It was an awesome experience.”

Head coach Alyssa Meyer also brought sophomore Mikaela McCabe to the tournament to get an idea of what state competitions are like.

“It’s always good to bring someone, especially someone who could potentially go to state later,” Meyer said. “They can see the level of competition in addition to the format so it’s not as much of a surprise later.”
