Jaguars achieve second shutout
The Jaguar football team defeated the Schlagle Stallions 43-0 on Friday, Oct. 12 recording the team’s second shutout.
Senior cornerback Andrew Campbell said their performance was a result of superior skill and persistent determination.
“At first other teams, like Schlagle, will start out strong because of their confidence going into the game, but by second quarter their focus and will goes away,” Campbell said. “We played a lot faster, and we were more determined to win.”
Senior right guard Joe Jerome noted their advantage over the Stallions in the area of coaching.
“Our coaches make sure we are well disciplined and make us work hard,” Jerome said. “Their skill position players were fast and athletic but our linemen were better, and we were more focused on our assignments.”
Campbell agreed, and thought that their pre-game ritual set the team up for success.
“Right before the game, the whole team sits in the gym in silence and listens to music to get us focused. Then right before [the game] begins, Coach gives us a speech to pump us up,” Campbell said.
Both Campbell and Jerome expect nothing less for their upcoming game against Washington on Friday.
“[Our victories are] a result of a good week of practice and preparation,” Jerome said. “I expect another shutout against Washington.”
