The girls tennis team took second place in its home tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15. Blue Valley High School took first by a margin of two points.

All six players made it to the championship round of the tournament and took home two silver medals and a bronze medal.

With regionals coming up in October and roughly half the season finished, players and coaches alike are looking at previous victories and defeats in order to prepare the team for the challenges ahead.

Head coach Alyssa Meyer described the process by which the regional team is chosen and the dynamic of the group.

“We can take six girls to regionals, and we have to look at their scores to see how they’ve done and who will be the strongest,” Meyer said. “We have four returning members of last year’s regional team, all seniors. They have consistency and experience and it’s been fun to see them take a leadership role and be successful in their last year.”

Senior Taylor Brunson of the regional team summed up her goals for the remainder of the season.

“We just want to…do [well] at regionals,” Brunson said. “[And also] to make it to state.”
