Community Blood Center comes for donations
Senior Brett Hamilton rested at the recovery station, filled with Oreos, pretzels, drinks and more. Others still sat at tables while they anxiously waited for their turn to give blood.
“I was really nervous,” Hamilton said. “I heard a lot of bad stories.”
Hamilton took part in the The Community Blood Center bi-annual blood drive, sponsored by StuCo, on Thursday, Oct. 25. Students must be at least 115 lbs. and can only give one pint of blood per donation day.
According to StuCo sponsor Erica Crist, The Community Blood Center wanted 91 units of blood. The blood drive nded up with 119 people showing up and with 94 units of usable blood. The amount of people that show up usually stay the same from year to year.
Hamilton shared his nerve-racking experience with giving blood for the first time.
“It hurt a lot,” Hamilton said. “I’d do it again though.”
