I’m sure most of you, if not all, have heard of this classic Disney movie. This movie was a staple to my childhood because I watched this movie so much and absolutely loved it.

“Sky High” is a movie about Will, a freshman, with  parents who are modern day superheroes. He and one of his friends, Layla, are enrolled in an all superhero school named Sky High. It’s location is in the name, the school is in the middle of the sky. Each student is tested to see whether they will be  a hero or sidekick and Will gets dubbed a sidekick,  because he has yet to develop his superpowers. He falls for this girl named Gwen that ends up being nothing but trouble, but Will doesn’t discover this  until it’s way too late. Towards the end of the film, Will and his friends fight the villain Royal Pain in order to save the school.

“Sky High” does a good job at highlighting how high school can be extremely awkward, especially when so much is expected from you by friends, family and even your teachers. There’s a lot of pressure put on Will, because of his family name, which is a  recurring theme with high schoolers today. So much is expected from us, but all we can do is our  best.

Another lesson from this movie is that you shouldn’t underestimate people. People are a lot more powerful than you think. A team of so called “sidekicks” can ban together and save the day. If that doesn’t say that people shouldn’t be second guessed on how powerful they  are, then I don’t know what does.

Overall, “Sky High” is such a classic movie for its modernization of superheroes and showing that sidekicks are much more than just hero support. I watched this movie so much when I was younger and now that it’s on Netflix, I can watch it as much as I want. If you’re like me and enjoy watching movies from your childhood, this is one at the top of my list.

See you next time!
