Art student finds outlet with painting

Junior Kelsey Winscott has participated in art classes since her freshmen year.
Why did you choose to do AP Studio Art?
I took it last year and I really enjoyed it. You really have to do the class twice to get the full effect. It’s more beneficial to take it more than once.
What is your favorite form of art?
All my friends call me the painting ninja because I paint really fast. I have tampered with graphic design, but it’s completely different.
Do you plan to pursue an art career in the future?
I haven’t made up my mind yet. There’s a job at National Geographic as a scientific artist. You paint illustrations of animals or muscles. But it’s difficult to get into, but it would be wonderful. If art doesn’t work out, it’ll be pharmacy.
What are you currently working on in art?
My concentration that I’m working on is flowers. I’m playing with spaces and negative space. The flowers are coming towards you. It’s very realistic stuff.
What inspires you to do art?
I get inspiration from people around me. My paintings are based on my mood.
How long have you been doing art?
I think I started in seventh grade with my first art class. The classes I’ve taken in school have really helped me.
Why did you start doing art?
I started because it because it became an outlet for me. It helped me say things I wouldn’t be able to say. The quote on my art notebook says “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way… Things I have no words for.” It’s by Georgia O’Keeffe. I find myself staying late here. I’ll get started painting and I look at the clock and it’ll be 5:30 p.m..
